Upcoming Event: Experiences of an Emergency Room Doctor in Gaza

Greetings all!

You’re invited to a powerful public talk with Dr. Elise Thorburn, a St. John’s emergency physician who recently volunteered in hospitals in Gaza. Dr. Thorburn will share first-hand experiences of delivering care under siege conditions, the realities facing patients and medical staff, and the resilience she witnessed in the face of immense hardship.

This is a rare opportunity to hear direct testimony from the medical frontline and deepen our collective understanding of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the protection of healthcare, and Canada’s responsibilities.

During the evening, we will also introduce the Apartheid Free Communities campaign. This campaign is a growing international effort that invites towns, organizations, and institutions to take a clear stand against apartheid and complicity in human rights violations. By committing to ethical purchasing and refusing ties to companies that profit from oppression, communities like ours can take meaningful, collective action. This campaign directly compliments the growing Arms Embargo movement by showing that our community is ready to lead with values. If you’ve been looking for a concrete way to turn concern into action, this is it. Read more about the AFC at the link and please let us know if you’d like to get involved locally during the foundational work. https://apartheid-free.org/ All levels of understanding/unlearning will be welcomed and cherished.

We hope you’ll join us and bring a friend.
